Backsplash Installation
What I Can Do
- Remove old or dated backsplashes and prep the wall for new tile
- Install new backsplashes where none currently exist
- Work with tile, mosaics, and other common backsplash materials
- Handle kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms, and other splash‑prone areas
How the Installation Process Works
A good backsplash is all about prep and precision. My typical process looks like this:
Evaluate & Measure
- Carefully measure the area, check for uneven walls, and plan the layout
- Identify any special cuts needed around outlets, switches, windows, or cabinets
Remove & Prep the Wall
- If there’s an existing backsplash, remove it carefully to minimize wall damage
- Repair and smooth the surface so the new tile has a solid, even base
- Clean and de‑gloss the wall if needed so adhesives bond properly
Plan the Layout
- Dry‑fit tiles, mark level lines, and plan the pattern so cuts end up in less visible spots
- Double‑check alignment around outlets, countertops, and cabinets
Cut‑Outs & Special Areas
- Turn off power and remove outlet/switch covers where needed
- Make precise cut‑outs and cut‑arounds for outlets, switches, and corners so everything fits cleanly
- Ensure outlets and covers sit flush and look finished once the tile is in
Set the Tile
- Apply mortar or mastic evenly and set tiles with spacers for consistent grout lines
- Check for level and straight lines as the work progresses, not just at the end
Grout & Finish
- Grout the backsplash, wipe it clean, and smooth the joints
- Caulk edges where the tile meets countertops, cabinets, or walls for a finished look
- Reinstall outlet/switch covers and clean up the workspace
Backsplashes aren’t just decoration—they protect your walls from splashes and stains, and they can instantly make a space feel more “finished” and high‑end. If you’re in Key Biscayne and want to replace an outdated backsplash or add one where there isn’t one yet, I’d be happy to help you upgrade the look and feel of your home.
